So... another one bited the dust... my s14 burned today

I had an interesting day, went to a couple of car shows in town and took a bunch of pics, went and had lunch, then driving home, I hear a whooshing noise under my hood, and it got louder and louder. Like nothing I've ever heard before. I pulled over on a side street, and my pedal pushed to the floor, so I swung around, gunned the car across the street to another parking lot entrance, and the car went over the curb into a tree. Really slow, no damage done at all to the car, but as soon as I get out I see flames under the car in front of the door. I am thinking, shit got a grass fire here, and like an idiot I start pulling the pine needles back to hold off the flames, about that time realizing there is flames dripping down out from the engine to the ground, so I started vacating the cab of all my stuff and get back and start videotaping. By this point my whole engine bay is jetting flames and popping and crap, and then I remember my camera and all my lenses are in the passenger floor. So I go all crazy and run back into the car for them, get em all out and get back while the whole car blazes til the FD gets there. The only thing I didn't grab before it burned (besides my beloved car) was my wallet, which crispied around the edges, enough to where I have to replace everything in it. After the fire was etinguished, about 60 percent of the car burned up. I am not sure if the body is good yet, the whole interior is shot, door internals are pooled in the bottom of the doors, all the carpet lit at least, and the whole front under the hood, all the exterior is melted off the car. The upper strut mount on the driver side burned in two so the left wheel is all cockeyed and hanging out. I haven't had the heart to look at it much yet. Not a good day for this guy.... good thing I have a cherry s3 coupe almost ready to drive after so many things gone wrong with it. I have had bad months and years with cars before, never this bad...will get the pics and vids linked to here eventually.

Nissan Hardbody (D21) trucks and non functioning AC

Just wondered if anyone knew why so many of these trucks have non-functioning AC at this point? Did Nissan use notoriously faulty compressors or was the piping or wiring questionable? Reason I'm asking is I previously owned an 87 and the compressor was unhooked and I was told it didnt work. I've contemplated buying another recently as a cheap gas saver and have seen countless where the AC doesnt work. Anyone know if there was something particularly faulty with them or what?
